Who needs Trader Joe's?

Have you ever wanted something so bad you could taste it?  I mean REALLY wanted it.

I've wanted an eco-grocery/natural foods store in downtown Spokane so bad that I could almost taste the tofu.  I'm not kidding; I've had dreams about such a store.  We'll call them "green" dreams.

Well . . . dreams do come true!  What once was a Goodyear tire shop is now being transformed into the Main Market Cooperative.  And I'm not pulling the rubber over your eyes.  Member owned and locally driven, the Main Market will be an eco-grocery, green haven in the heart of downtown Spokane.  Only the freshest locally grown produce.  Only natural or organic meat, poultry and dairy products.  Fresh seafood.  The list could go on.  But what am I most excited about?  I'll have a new place for lunch!  Main Market Take-Away will include fresh daily soups, salads and baked goods.  You'll even get to eat produce grown on their roof!!  I'm feeling more environmentally friendly already! Oh, and this is too cool to not mention.  To cater to the ever growing population of downtown residents, Main Market will offer meat lockers so that people can purchase large quantities without having to worry about storage.  Makes me want to buy a whole side of beef.  Organic beef of course.

But the Main Market isn't stopping at providing locally grown and environmentally friendly vittles.  They want you, and everyone else, to know how cool what they're doing is.  To accomplish this they'll offer:

  • In the Field:  Come along on quarterly tours of the Main Market's producers.  See where and how these locals do their work.
  • At the Table:  Meet who provides "the goods" for Main Market at Main Market.  Learn everything you'd like through informative and transparent question and answer periods.
  • Behind the Scenes:  Witness first hand the green technology that makes the Main Market eco-grocery so unique.

All I gotta say is keep the faith friends.  The wait is almost over.  Oh, and Trader Joe's?  We don't need no stinkin' Trader Joe's!

I still wish we had a Trader Joe's... but this sounds awesome in many ways unique from anything I've heard them offering! I'm excited! When are they aiming to open?

Hey SimplyComplexSpokanite! As of now they don't have a specific open date set. But from what I've heard they're aiming for late summer/early fall 2009.

Hi Randy! Main Market is still in the works and set to open at the end of October, so the countdown is still on! If you want to see the progress, head downtown to the corner of Main and Browne. It's looking pretty sweet! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Have a response? Let us know what you think?
