Artists Light Up Spokane - Literally

spokane-throw-prImagine seeing a huge love letter to Spokane projected on a building in downtown Spokane. That is exactly what Spokane Arts plans to do with its latest project: Spokane Throw.

Spokane Arts is calling for submissions by September 26. Artists are asked to submit their handwritten letters to be considered for when the "light letters" are "thrown" onto the sides of buildings. The projections will be displayed throughout Create Spokane arts month in October.

The goal of this project is to create a partnership between artists and local businesses. Spokane Throw is also hoping local businesses will help sponsor the program by providing the donation necessary to host a light at their building site.

"Aiming for these iconic building sides in downtown will not only make the art visible in a big way, but will pave the way for ongoing collaboration between creative arts industries and members of the downtown business sector at multiple levels" said Austin Stiegemeier, Program Manager for Spokane Arts. "We want everyone to be able to publicly participate in our art scene, and this project allows the broader Spokane community to exercise mutual ownership of visual space in downtown Spokane."

For project details, sponsorship opportunities and submission requirements, visit spokanethrow.com. If you are interested in hosting a light and want more information, please contact Program Manager Austin Stiegemeier at austin@spokanearts.org.

Spokane Arts works to amplify Spokane as the cultural hub and catalyst for the Inland Northwest through arts leadership, advocacy, networking and support. Spokane Arts is a partnership between the Spokane Arts Commission and the Spokane Arts Fund - the private, non-profit arts agency created in 2013. Find more information at www.spokanearts.org.
