The vernal equinox may not be for another couple of weeks, but you can already find the signs of spring everywhere you look in the Spokane region. The snow has melted, the sun is out and people are already diving head-first into the region’s fantastic outdoor recreation. Whether you’re out to try something new or you're visiting for your favorite bike trail, Spokane has something for you!

If you prefer a little more adrenaline in your outdoor pursuits, you’ll find it in plenty of places around the Spokane region. Experienced rock climbers will revel in nearly limitless options for outdoor climbing. Rocks of Sharon in Spokane Valley and McLellan Rocks in Riverside State Park offer great options for beginners and advanced climbers alike, with sport routes ranging from 5.7-5.12+. Advanced climbers will want to check out the notoriously-cryptic Deep Creek—the easiest route you’ll find is 5.11a. If you’re simply looking to dip your toes into the world of climbing, check out Wild Walls, Spokane’s premiere indoor climbing gym. If you still want to be high above the ground but rock climbing isn’t your thing, check out Spokane’s new zip-line adventures: Mica Moon Zip Tours and Timberline Adventures.

Don’t worry—if you’re not an adrenaline junkie, there are still plenty of outdoor recreation options to explore in the Spokane region. Cyclists, runners and walkers will love Spokane’s Centennial Trail, a 37-mile paved trail that begins at the Washington-Idaho state line, runs through downtown Spokane, and ends at Nine-Mile Falls, WA. If you like leisurely strolls, make one of Spokane’s famous gardens your venue, or take a meandering walk through Riverfront Park to observe the raging Spokane falls. Check out our interactive map for a comprehensive guide to the best vantage points and pit stops.

Even the most determined outdoor adventurer eventually needs to slow down and rest.  Fortunately, there are plenty of upcoming events that will appeal to your untamable spirit. Hunters and anglers will find gear paradise at the 2016 Big Horn Outdoor Adventure Show from March 17-20 at the Spokane County Fair & Expo Center. During the same weekend, basketball fans can catch some Division I March Madness action at the Spokane Arena.
