Green meetings and events incorporate environmental considerations to minimize their negative impact on the environment. Although the terms "Green" and "BlueGreen" are relatively new, they are concepts Spokane has embraced since the region's native people met here to fish the Spokane River. In 1974 the city made a strong return to its corporate concern for the environment when it hosted Expo ‘74, the world's first environmentally focused World's Fair. Today, our tourism and meeting industries are more committed than ever to doing their part to preserve and conserve Spokane's natural beauty.
The 100,000 square-foot $90 million expansion of the Spokane Convention Center is being undertaken with a goal of becoming one of the few facilities in the country that are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified.
