Visit Spokane is pleased to announce the 2016 Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) grant recipients awarded by Spokane County.
This year's recipients, with grant amounts indicated, are:
2016 Gathering at the Falls Powwow - $7,150
Annual Native American celebration in Riverfront Park featuring tribal dancers, singers and more.
Oktoberfest at the River - $15,000
A traditional German community celebration at the Spokane Convention Center, featuring German beer, food, games and live music.
Spokane AAU – Regional Tournaments - $10,000
Three basketball events (Shootout Spring Classic, Boo Ball Fall Classic and Santa Slammer Winter Classic) that bring in more than 100 teams ages 4th-8th grade to compete in a weekend tournament.
The Cork District - $18,000
Organized marketing effort representing the Spokane region’s wineries and tasting rooms.
TPA funds are made available through the support of Spokane County lodging businesses. For every occupied room night, guests are assessed a two-dollar per room, per night fee that is returned to Spokane County. The revenue collected from this assessment must be used for activities and events that are designed to increase tourism promotion and convention business in the Spokane Metropolitan Area.
Each year, grant applicants present their project plans to the Spokane County Hotel-Motel Board. Board members make their final recommendations, which are then forwarded to the Spokane County Commissioners. Commissioners can either accept or reject the recommendations.
