President's Perspective

Cheryl-Headshot-use-thisWe are gearing up for 2015 and the year looks really solid in all market segments!  The national forecasts show leisure travel will remain strong and that meetings and conventions will continue to grow.  In Spokane County, we enjoy a strong leisure market through all four seasons.  We are the shopping, dining and entertainment center for a 250-mile radius around Spokane County (Randall Travel Market Report) and we will continue to target this market. In 2015, there will be more national conventions meeting here than in prior years - a result of the Spokane Convention Center expansion.  Although the expansion and the addition of the Davenport Grand Hotel will take a few years to ramp up, we are already seeing the benefits of both of these new products. Not only does 2015 see larger groups utilizing the new space, we also have active prospects for conventions in future years that would not be talking to us without the expansion or the new hotel.  When you add the upcoming renovations to Riverfront Park through the new master plan, our convention package will have beautiful wrapping, and that combination creates new demand for the entire region.

As we close out 2014 we are thankful to you, our tourism partners for your continued investment in tourism.  We are excited about next year and are looking forward to increased visitor spending touching your cash registers and our local tax collections.

Happy Holidays!

The 17-story Davenport Grand Hotel is projected to be completed in summer 2015 and will have 62,500 square feet of meeting space.
