Following Through on a Promise to Plant
CVB's Convention Sales Team rallies to plant hundreds of trees

(Spokane, WA, December 1, 2011) - It's a perfect idea for the Evergreen State. The statewide convention sales group "Meet in Washington State" caught the attention of meeting planners earlier this year with a green promise. At American Society of Association Executives' (ASAE) Springtime Show and ASAE's Annual Meeting, Meet in Washington State agreed to plant a tree for every planner who stopped and signed a special tree-shaped card. It worked! A total of 1,250 names translated into that many trees.

With five Washington meeting destinations splitting that amount of trees, Spokane's Convention Sales Team followed through planting more than 250 trees on October 22 as part of Reforest Spokane Day. With a volunteer group of nearly 20 people, the team planted seedlings in an open field near Pines Road and I-90 in Spokane Valley.

Much of Spokane's appeal for meeting planners is the unique balance of cityscape and landscape. Our spectacular outdoor access is a selling point that brings notable meetings and conventions back to Spokane repeatedly. It only makes sense that we should give back to the environment, keeping the state evergreen!
