President's Perspective

cheryl_mattedThank you to everyone who attended the Big Meeting last week and especially to our sponsors!  There were a few announcements that we shared when describing the Big Picture for tourism in Spokane that I'd like to reiterate.

This is the time of year that the budget details are being finalized and the Big Cooperative Marketing Programs through Visit Spokane are a great way to leverage your limited resources. Check out the sales and marketing opportunities here .
We made a couple of Big Announcements during the meeting. The Visitor Information Center will be moving into a kiosk in River Park Square later this fall and we will be launching a mobile Visitor Information Center this spring.  We are excited to be moving to a higher foot traffic area in the mall and will soon be scheduling the mobile Visitor Information  Center to make appearances at events and locations where the visitors will be.

Our new Inland NW ACE Team program is underway and we've already had our first training session, which included an experiential destination tour.  The participants gave rave reviews!  Remember, you can invite us to work with you to customize the program and come to your employee meetings to present curriculum.

We have hired new sales professionals to represent us in the Chicago/Midwest region and another to be based in the Seattle area. The expansion of the sales force was planned and we intend to add additional personnel in 2014 to ensure that we are appropriately staffed to sell and promote the expanded convention center and additional hotel inventory that is underway.

We are excited about our plans for attracting visitors to our region and invite you to participate.

Capitol Christmas Tree

capitol_xmas_treeIt may seem too early to be talking about Christmas, but this year a local tree will gain national attention, and we're excited about it! The 2013 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree has been selected to come from Colville National Forest. After it's cut down in early November, it will take a 26-city tour throughout Washington state and various cities along the route, ending in Washington D.C. Join us for the Spokane stop in downtown on November 5! Note: due to the current government shutdown, some details are subject to change for this event. Visit for the most up-to-date information.

Plenty of Parking

With the Spokane Convention Center expansion and Walt Worthy hotel construction, there have been some questions raised about parking in downtown. Please take a look at this map that highlights the extensive parking options in the downtown area surrounding the convention center and INB Performing Arts Center . Feel free to share with customers, clients and anyone who needs one.
