New Years is possibly the most celebrated holiday in the world. Most cultures use the Gregorian calendar but people have been celebrating the new year for thousands of years just like the ancient Romans and their Julian calendar. This is just one reason why I am going to ring in the New Year Spokane style, rather than sit in front of a TV watching the ball drop on tape delay.

First Night FireworksI like the idea of a fresh start for 2013. More time spent with friends, family and doing the things we love will go a long way. To start it off right, I am proposing one night to wish it all away. For me, I'll be headed for downtown Spokane for First Night, listening to live music and absorbing inspiration through local and regional artists. I'll try ice skating with friends and watching the 48 hour film festival. I might stop by one of the dance parties too, but I'll be staking out my spot by the ice sculptures and finding the perfect viewpoint for the best fireworks show in town.
Most importantly, I'll be smiling from ear to ear knowing that the world didn't end with the Mayan calendar. So, join me and millions of others around the world as we go out and start the new year with momentum and a renewed faith that 2013 will be the best year yet.
