Spokane Kantorei Choir, Festival Singers, and Collegium Orchestra present “Grant Us Peace: Honoring Our Veterans " as part of the St. John's Music Series.

Pieces featured on this concert celebrate our Land of Liberty with songs of Americana, including Irving Berlin’s “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor” and La Rocca’s arrangement of “America the Beautiful.” Musical settings of “Letters from the Field” bring alive texts by soldiers spanning from the Civil War to the Iraq War, including Lee Hoiby’s “Last Letter Home” and a premiere by composer Mitchell Davey, “This Heritage of Heart.” The concert culminates in a performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant us peace), composed between the two World Wars and which sets Walt Whitman’s poetry with choir and orchestra. Featuring soloists Amy Porter (soprano) and Max Mendez (baritone), conducted by Timothy Westerhaus.
