The first lecture of the 2019-2020 Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) series will be led by Pacific Lutheran University professor, archaeologist, and author Dr. Donald Ryan, whose professional interests include Egyptian archaeology,
Polynesian archaeology, history of exploration, and ancient languages and scripts. Ryan is best known for his research in Egypt including excavations in the Valley of the Kings where he has discovered lost tombs and controversial mummies.
Dr. Ryan will share some of his recent discoveries while investigating some of the lesser-known tombs in the ancient royal cemetery. These include the rediscovery of three tombs that once contained the mummies of animals and the excavation of a tomb that might have played a very unusual role in the Valley's history.
