The Spokane Jazz Orchestra is a traditional big band that performs one of the most entertaining, annual concert series in the Inland Northwest, for jazz enthusiasts and music lovers alike. Founded in 1975, the Spokane Jazz Orchestra has a deep musical history in the Inland Northwest, that goes back to the 1960s. It’s the longest, continuously performing, community supported jazz orchestra in the United States.
Concertgoers can expect to hear performances of classic big bands and jazz legends as well as modern jazz ensembles. The SJO also features stylings and arrangements from other musical genres and local artists.
Our 2019-2020 season them is “Jazz: The Sound of Unity.” Jazz is the music of America. Since the early 1900s, Jazz has been bringing diverse people, cultures, and communities together as it shaped the collective story of American music. Jazz is the musical unity created from the diversity of thought, tradition, and expression. Our concert themes, guest artists and musical selections celebrate Jazz and its power to unify, bringing our community closer together.
