Whitworth University Wind Symphony

    The Whitworth Wind Symphony specializes in the performance of outstanding traditional and contemporary literature for concert band and wind ensemble; the group presents several concerts on and off-campus throughout the year. The wind symphony is open by audition to all Whitworth students in any major who are woodwind, brass, percussion, or string bass instrumentalists. The ensemble tours every other year, with recent destinations including Hawaii, San Francisco, and the Pacific Northwest. The Whitworth Wind Symphony has been recognized as one of the outstanding college bands in the region; the group appeared in concert at the 1999, 2001 and 2007 All-Northwest MENC conventions, at the 2006 Washington Music Educators Association Convention, and at the 2002 College Band Directors National Association Western/ Northwestern Regional Conference. The wind symphony has also recorded and released four CDs: In the Spring (1998), New Century Dawn (2000), Ride (2004), and Sea to Shining Sea (2008). These CDs are available for purchase in the music office and at the Whitworth University Bookstore.
