The Whitworth Wind Symphony

One of the outstanding college bands in the northwestern United States, the Whitworth Wind Symphony has appeared in concert at numerous regional conferences, including those of the Washington Music Educators Association and the Western/Northwestern region of the College Band Directors National Association. The wind symphony has toured throughout the western United States and in Hawaii, Costa Rica and Thailand, and has released five compact disc recordings. The wind symphony was recently showcased by CBDNA as one of the most outstanding small college bands in the nation.

As the university’s select auditioned wind and percussion ensemble, the wind symphony performs outstanding traditional and contemporary literature for concert band and wind ensemble, and presents several concerts on and off campus throughout the year. The wind symphony has been active in commissioning new works and collaborating with composers around the world, including David Maslanka, James David, Greg Youtz, Michael Young and Robert Spittal. The ensemble is open by audition to all Whitworth University students in any major who are woodwind, brass, percussion or string bass musicians.
