European Cuisine in Spokane

In Spokane, local chefs offer an imaginative take on European food by using fresh ingredients and even fresher ideas to reinvigorate dishes that have been around for centuries.

Pasta and More

Start with the perhaps the most ubiquitous of European food here in the U.S., and go for Italian at Italia Trattoria. Firmly in the upscale arena, this eatery delivers a flavorful bang for your buck through pastas made in-house, an extensive list of Italian wines, and only the freshest ingredients. With dishes from Italy’s northern and southern regions, there’s sure to be both the familiar and new on the ever-changing seasonal menu. Always striking and delicious is the black squid ink fettuccine and wild shrimp. A selection of dishes featuring ravioli, lasagna, and pappardelle won’t let you down either. Located in the historic Browne’s Addition neighborhood, the location has large, garage-style windows that roll up to the sidewalk for a pleasant neighborhood café experience.

Meat Your Match

For a taste of French cuisine, try Santé Restaurant and Charcuterie. An elegant bistro setting and beautiful meal presentation evoke a French aesthetic in this downtown gem. A downstairs butchery handles all of the chicken, beef, pork, and seafood coming into the establishment, all of which are raised as though they were wild and are free of antibiotics, hormones, GMOs, and pesticides. Local farms are tapped to supply meats and produce for fresh ingredients made from scratch. The menu lets these carefully selected elements shine through French-style entrées where protein is the star, although vegetarian options are also available.

Traditional Fare, Invigorating Environment

With a presence in Spokane for over 25 years, O'Doherty's Irish Grille stays true to the traditional Irish concept of local pubs acting as a neighborhood hub. Don’t let the digital clock counting down to St. Patrick’s Day all year fool you, this restaurant is festive and fun on any given day. Likely the first thing you’ll notice inside O’Doherty’s is the walls and ceiling covered in dollar bills which represent a living history of those who have “joined the family.” Visitors who are brave enough can tell the staff they want to “join the family.” With the go-ahead from staff, sing a song on the bar for the privilege of adding your own dollar bill to the walls.  Come for the traditional Irish pub fare, like shepherd’s pie or corned beef and cabbage, stay for the brews on tap and the party waiting to happen.
While in Spokane, forget what you know about stodgy Old World food and get ready for a new precedent to be set when it comes to European cuisine.
