A Little Bit of Ugly in Spokane
Gets a Major Makeover

It's not a fast food joint. It isn't a gas station. Nor is it an office building.

Instead, it's ART that's going to be occupying a high-traffic, high-profile vacant lot in Spokane starting Saturday, Oct. 4 at 10 am.

Come see the transformation of the eye-sore at Division Street and Third Avenue, and witness the huge collaboration between 17 artists who will be installing 87 mural panels for what is called the Mobile Murals Project.

"These might be temporary walls but they'll provide lasting inspiration that will, hopefully, spread throughout the entire community," says Luke Baumgarten, interim co-director of Spokane Arts. The agency conceived the project as part of CREATE SPOKANE, the month-long celebration of the arts in Spokane during October. Along with Spokane Arts, the Mobile Murals Project is a collaboration with Downtown Spokane Partnership and the City of Spokane.

When : Saturday, Oct. 4
Time: 10 am
Where: Northwest corner lot of Division Street & Third Avenue, downtown Spokane
Who: For a list of participating artists, visit the Create Spokane website at www.createspokane.com.
What else : At 2 pm, the public is invited to arrive at the site, as muralists will lead a walking tour of the five recently-completed murals that are now permanent parts of the downtown landscape. The tour concludes with a mural reception at River City Brewing and Rocket Bakery (W. First Ave and S. Cedar St).

Spokane Arts works to amplify Spokane as the cultural hub and catalyst for the Inland Northwest through arts leadership, advocacy, networking and support. Spokane Arts is a partnership between the Spokane Arts Commission and the Spokane Arts Fund - the private, non-profit arts agency created in 2013. Find more information at www.spokanearts.org.
