October is one of my favorite months of the year. I love the cool, crisp mornings and the sunny afternoons. I'm really excited about Create Spokane arts month, with its full calendar of activities. As a tourism industry professional, I hope you support the arts. We have tremendous performing, visual and literary arts experiences for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the year. Art has always been a means of expression that connects us to people, places and times within our community, and I encourage you to experience it for yourself. Although there are special activities in October, there are plenty of ways to enjoy and support the arts throughout the year!

Visit Spokane is pleased to welcome Scott Zellers to the organization as the newest Director of National Accounts. A Spokane native, Scott graduated from Washington State University in 2007 and worked as a sales manager at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue until joining the Visit Spokane team this September. Scott will focus on bringing legal, government, public administration, agriculture and corporate meetings and conventions to the Spokane region. Welcome, Scott!

Did you know October is Create Spokane arts month? Highlighting the diversity of arts and culture that exists throughout the Inland Northwest, Create Spokane will encourage broad public participation across all arts disciplines and industries. A number of events and activities are being held throughout the month-long celebration, including workshops, performances and for the big finale - a costume ball to announce the winners of the Spokane Arts Awards. Where in the World?

Director of National Accounts Brooke LaFleur and Regional Director of National Accounts Kim Ritten were in Minneapolis for MPI's annual World Education Congress, August 2-6.

Regional Director of National Accounts Karen Staples attended the ASAE Annual Meeting and Expo in Nashville, August 9-13. This meeting involves association executives from across the nation, an invaluable group to work with, as they are the decision makers about where to hold their meetings, which have very high returns.

Director of Sales Shannon Shannon and Director of Convention Services Amy Cabe attended the 2014 LonCon at the Excel Center in London, August 13-18. They were promoting Sasquan - the World Science Fiction Convention booked for Spokane in 2015. Attendance in London was over 7,400 and the interest in Spokane was great.

Shannon and Director of National Accounts Lisa McHaffie attended Connect in Orlando, August 20-24. They were joined by the Spokane Convention Center, Red Lion Hotels, Doubletree by Hilton and the Davenport Hotel Collection. They completed 54 client appointments and secured 16 RFPs.

The historic 1899 House Bed & Breakfast recently received a Centennial Certificate! A retroactive recognition, Louie Flores III and Gillian Cranehahn were presented with the certificate by Mayor David Condon and Historic Preservation Officer Megan Duval.

Santé Visits Seattle

Santé was in the spotlight recently when Chef/Owner Jeremy Hansen made an appearance on the popular radio show, Seattle Kitchen. The show is hosted by longtime Seattle restaurateur Tom Douglas, who talked to Jeremy about his food philosophy and his experience running one of Spokane's top restaurants.

In addition to the interview, Chef Jeremy was invited to participate in a regular show feature, the food quiz. Did he win? Take a listen to find out!
