A Local’s Guide to the Perfect South Hill Day with Offof29th
Guest writer Kasey Cloaninger, the voice behind the social media account Offof29th is taking us on a trek around The South Hill (and beyond!) on a picture-perfect Saturday to explore some of her favorite hidden gems, local favorites, and the great outdoors. Here’s her agenda:
Coffee & Pastries on the Palouse: LaShaw Ranch Roasters
Start your morning just off the South Hill with a beautiful 20-25-minute drive into the rolling Palouse, where a charming mercantile sits tucked among open fields and grazing cows. Sip on a coffee, grab a bag of their in-house roast, and browse thoughtfully curated goods, it’s the perfect slow start to your day.
Plant Shopping: Casa Cano Farms + Haase Greenhouse
On your way back to Spokane, make a can’t-miss stop at Casa Cano Farms, a charming farm storefront filled with local goods like fresh produce, meats, honey, handmade jewelry and cards, flowers, and all the best seasonal finds.
Then once you’re back in town, swing by Haase’s Greenhouse on the South Hill (34th Ave), conveniently located right inside Spokane, perfect for picking up beautiful annuals and perennials to add a little extra life to your garden before heading home.
Perry District Outing: Veda Lux, Wishing Tree Books, Geez-Loueez Artistry, Little Free Libraries, The Meeting House Café
Once your plants are packed up, head to the vibrant Perry District for a perfect afternoon stroll, starting with lunch. Nothing says “the perfect Saturday” like a grilled cheese and tomato soup, and trust me… I’ve had the one (at least five times). You’ll find it at The Meeting House Café, complete with cozy seating, great food, and all the neighborhood vibes.
Post lunch, start your stroll at Geez-Loueez Artistry, where you can explore work from 20+ local artists across two unique gallery spaces. Then pop into the newly renovated Veda Lux to find your next favorite piece, and finish at Wishing Tree Books to browse your next great read. Keep an eye out for Little Free Libraries along the way for a fun bonus treasure hunt!
Hike at Glenrose Trails
If you’re up for an afternoon adventure, we know the perfect way to get some fresh air, stretch your legs, and move your body. A late afternoon hike at the Glenrose Trails is just the spot, offering sweeping views of the city and that fresh, open-air feeling. With trails for all levels, it’s an easy add to your day… just don’t forget the bug spray!
Post Hike Wine at Winescape
Just minutes from the Glenrose trailheads, Winescape is the perfect place to unwind, soak in sunset views, cozy up by the fire, and sip on delicious wine. The perfect ending to your South Hill & Beyond Saturday… you’ll definitely be sleeping well tonight!
Kasey Cloaninger started Offof29th in 2022 to highlight the businesses and local favorites that make the South Hill (and beyond) feel vibrant, connected, and full of character.
Born out of her own experience of moving to a new neighborhood and not knowing where to start, where to find a great cup of coffee, find the go-to grocery store, the best hiking trails, or those hidden local gems. As she looked around, she realized she probably wasn’t alone in that feeling.
What started as a simple idea has grown into an ongoing love letter to the South Hill, a space dedicated to highlighting the restaurants, community events, vintage finds, and small businesses that make the Spokane community so special. At its core, Offof29th is about helping people feel connected, inspired, and excited about where they live.
