The Best Indoor Activities in Spokane

Sometimes a movie, live show or sharing a meal just isn’t going to fill the bill when we’re looking to be entertained. Now with safety protocols in place across Spokane, there are oodles of ways to find yourself immersively occupied while actually doing something indoors!

FLATSTICK PUB in downtown Spokane offers 28 beers and ciders on tap, food, a challenging nine-hole miniature golf course and a variety of games for people of all ages. Spokane brothers Andy and Sam Largent opened the first Flatstick in Kirkland in 2014, bringing their concept back to their hometown a couple of years ago. “It’s about working with the breweries, making fun events and bringing people together.” says Flatstick’s brand manager Rob Forbes.

If mini-golf seems a little too tame, perhaps you’re ready to pick up an axe and hurl it. Just a short trip up North Division from downtown, at HEBER HATCHETS, lumberjacks or lumberjills will train you and your friends to safely chuck hatchets at the target. Flannel isn’t required, but it is encouraged. Just be ready. Axe throwing might become a habit. “I can confirm hearing the axe slice into the wood and stay there is insanely satisfying. And once I found that one success, it was difficult to stop throwing,” says novice thrower Riley Utley. With 11 lanes, groups can be accommodated.

Perhaps you’re looking for a broader view, say from the top of a wall, to regain perspective on life. WILD WALLS pros will help you learn the ropes of climbing at your own pace at the indoor gym just east of downtown. “Climb as high as you want and then come down when you are ready. The only requirement is the desire to try something new, exciting and addicting!” says their website. While beginners have to take a class or pass a test to climb with ropes, bouldering is a lower-to-the-ground activity with no prior knowledge necessary.

For groups of up to eight people looking for an intense, hour-long activity, ESCAPE!, with two Spokane locations, offers challenging real life puzzle adventures” in which participants search for clues and eventually (usually...) escape from various themed rooms. Depending on the degree of difficulty you’re up for, you could take part in a Prison Break, or become a Secret Agent out to save humanity. Or if you’re looking for spine-tingling chills, you may want to check out Room 13. We hear it’s haunted.

If settling in to explore your artistic side is more appealing, POLKA DOT POTTERY, with four Spokane locations, has you covered. Choose a piece of pottery — starting at $5 and including everything from unicorn statues to planters — and paint away. Three coats are recommended, so take your time and enjoy the glittery and textured glaze options. All glazes are non-toxic and lead-free. When you’re done, the staff will fire your piece de resistance and it will be ready for pick up in a week. If you’d rather work from home, to-go kits are also available.
