Riding the Bus in Spokane

Riding the bus is back in style! The Spokane Transit Authority's (STA) bus system connects the best parts of the Lilac City: see the neon lights of the Garland District, or head to the active heart of downtown Spokane. STA runs more than 36 routes to get you where you need to go. Considering its geographic isolation on the map, getting to Spokane is surprisingly easy. Once you’re here, it’s even more accessible. How to ride the bus

New transit system? No problem! Here's how to use STA buses in Spokane.

  1. Find your route. Locate your destination on their handy app: it'll find the ideal route for you.
  2. Head to the bus stop. They'll stop here for you!
  3. Have your fare ready. You can pay with card at machines located at the front of the bus or deposit cash in the same machine.
    - It's $2 for 2 hour bus fare. It's $4 for a full-day pass.
  4. See the sights. Spokane buses take scenic routes!
  5. Pull the string or press the STOP button to stop the bus before your stop. Then hop off and start your Lilac City adventure!

Notable routes

There's a lot of Spokane to see, so we've compiled a list of the most common STA routes you'll be taking while you're here!

  • 1: The City Line. This takes you from Gonzaga, through downtown, to Browne's Addition. The sleek new buses are a deep purple, so you can’t miss them.
  • 4: Monroe Regal. This route takes you from the North side of town to the south side of town. This is a great start if you're looking to get away from the downtown core.
  • 6: Cheney: Want to make a day trip to Washington State University? Take this route!
  • 722: Liberty Lake Express: Get ready for a day on the lake with the Liberty Lake Express!

New Routes for the Summer of Soccer

Are you ready for a Spokane Summer of Soccer? STA is making it easy to get to where you need to go. Check out their extra service on key routes from June 1 to July 25!

  • City Line: New 10-minute service on Saturdays — with 17 hours of high-frequency service throughout the day.
  • Route 7 and 63: Reliable airport service every 30 minutes — including on weeknights and weekends.

About STA

The Spokane Transit Authority (STA) operates public transportation in Spokane and Spokane County. They also offer paratransit and Rideshare services throughout the city. STA began as Spokane United Railways, managing the city's various tram lines. Now, their public transit provided more than 10 million rides in 2025. They activate special routes every year for big events like Bloomsday and Hoopfest.
