River Ridge, often referred to as RRAFA. was founded in 1971by a group of artists with the goal of finding venues in which to exhibit their art, to encourage each other, to enjoy fellowship with other artists, and to be part of the vibrant Spokane arts scene.
Throughout college Katie Frey I painted and studied art at multiple locations in the US, Australia, and South America while working towards a BA in English Literature. Even though art consumed her life, she failed to see it as a real job option. She graduated from Walla Walla University in 2007 with the intention of teaching High School English. Goals changed. Katie says, “Although poetry and literature remain a passion of mine and fuel my creativity, the visual arts are with the goal of finding venues in which to exhibit their art. my life’s true work.” She works in several different styles and mediums but is currently focusing on acrylic palette knife painting and mixed media texture landscapes. For her, “inspiration and texture are synonymous. Inspiration might be on the veins of a dry leaf, the layers of peeling graffiti beneath a bridge, or the erosion lines of a rock”.
