Jack & Dan’s Bar & Grill
Jack & Dan's is a long standing Bar and Grill in the Gonzaga University District, just east of Downtown. It was previously owned by John Stockton's father and serves Bar and Grill staples like…
Spokane’s youngest neighborhood, the University District, is all about innovation and entrepreneurship. The area east of downtown Spokane was once home to only Gonzaga University’s campus, but with great (basketball) success comes great growth. Gonzaga’s enrollment has nearly doubled, nearby Washington State University started purchasing parcels of land around the campus, and now the area is home to six universities and two med schools. It’s an energetic, highly intelligent, hip place to be, and it keeps on growing.
No-Li Brewhouse
Donut Parade
Of all the places you should go, Jack & Dan’s should be top of the list. The college bar, once owned by the father of Gonzaga legend and former NBA star, John Stockton, is iconic. It’s where Gonzaga students gather to drink. Just across the street is Logan Tavern, and for real Gonzaga flavor, go to The Bulldog inside the Hemmingson Center. One of Spokane’s most prolific craft breweries, No-Li Brewhouse, is in the area and well worth a visit.
For fine dining, try Clover. The restaurant is cozy inside an old bungalow, and the food and cocktail menu are perfection. Grab a quick bite at Caruso’s Sandwiches or try Cascadia Public House.
No visit to the U-District is complete without a stop at Donut Parade. The shop has been making and selling donuts since 1961. Try the maple bars.
Gonzaga University
Bing Crosby House
To fit in with the college kids, make a stop at the Gonzaga University Bookstore or The Bookie, Washington State University’s bookstore, for some swag. Global Neighborhood Thrift isn’t about recycled clothing and furniture; its goal is to heal the world and save the planet. The employees came to Spokane as refugees, so it’s a starting point for newcomers trying to build their American dream.
For entertainment, you’ll find it with Gonzaga athletics. The school has an incredible baseball team and facility, plus the soccer teams, and don’t forget basketball. The university also recently opened the Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center, which features theater, ballet, dance and music. No visit is complete without a stop in the Bing Crosby Museum.
