50 Year Celebration of River Park Square, Nordstrom and Expo ’74

Since opening its doors in the heart of Downtown Spokane on May 1, 1974, River Park Square has strived to be not only a superlative shopping destination but a community anchor. For 50 years, alongside Nordstrom Spokane which opened on the same day, River Park Square has remained a hub where families, friends, and visitors gather to experience the finest in retail, dining, and entertainment. This longevity is made possible by many individuals coming together: employees, business owners, community partners, shoppers, and guests.

Join River Park Square and Nordstrom Spokane in celebrating a half-century of memories and many more to come! River Park Square will be hosting events, exclusive promotions, and experiences beginning Friday, May 3, including special exhibit of archival images and firsthand storytelling by key figures in River Park Square’s history, curated by Katie McCutcheon; collaborations and performances with local community organizations including EXPO ’74 and Gonzaga Readers Theatre; on-site enter-to-win featuring 50 sought-after items from River Park Square merchants; community collection effort in support of Project BeautyShare. Donate new or gently used beauty and hygiene items for women and families in need and receive a keepsake River Park Square water bottle decal; limited-edition River Park Square 50-Year keychain with same-day purchases of $250 or more, while supplies last. The festivities kick off on Saturday, May 4 with the River Park Square and Nordstrom “Golden Jubilee.”

The day will be filled with special activities:

10am-8pm: Store-wide Nordstrom events and vendor demonstrations, including the chance to win a stroller from UPPAbaby.

11am-2pm: Spokane All-City Jazz Ensembles’ celebration of EXPO ’74 by local middle school and high school jazz students. Comprised of band members from all nearby districts, students unite as a part of this non-profit organization created to provide youth with an additional outlet to showcase their craft.-

11am-6pm: Commemorative party pics with Electric Photoland and a special prize wheel* for guests who bring in a piece of EXPO, River Park Square, or Nordstrom memorabilia. *One per customer. While supplies last.

Noon-4pm: Face Painting at the Nordstrom Kids Department and Balloon Twisting in the River Park Square Atrium.

2:30pm: Live Debut of “Hey, Hey Ruby” a playful new original song by Spokane’s own Olivia Brownlee.
