A Celebration of our Sister Cities: Building Bridges Around the World

Jun 23rd

Celebrate Spokane's Sister Cities at the Sister Cities Connections Garden in Riverfront Spokane. We have been Sister Cities for more than 50 years, starting with Nishinomiya, Japan, in 1961. Over the years, we've created agreements with Jilin City, China (since 1987); Limerick, Ireland (since 1990); Jecheon, South Korea (since 1999); and Cagli, Italy (since 2016).

The program will begin with an entry march of our Sister Cities and flags. A large photo exhibit will offer views of our Sister Cities, including visits, students exchanges, music, dance, food from all five of our Sister Cities, as well as other artifacts. There will be food available for tastes and purchase from vendors and a luncheon celebration including a guest speaker who will talk about the importance of citizen-to-citizen diplomacy in making the world a safer and more productive place — part of the legacy of former U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower who helped start Sister Cities International. Additionally, the Chinese Association will unveil their new contribution to the Sister Cities Connections Garden.

Celebration will take place at Spokane Pavilion, the Market Place and the Sister City Connections Garden at Riverfront Spokane
